Johor Sultan launch new JCorp logo

JOHOR BARU: State Ruler Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar has praised Johor Corporation (JCorp) for its continuous effort to develop the state through its big projects.

Sultan Ibrahim said JCorp should also be appreciated for carrying out various corporate social responsibility programmes that had touched people from all walks of life.

“Today, we are able to see JCorp’s flowering achievements such as the Johor Baru city centre, Pasir Gudang township, Dato Onn housing project, industrial park, Kulim plantation, KPJ hospitals and many others.

“After 50 years of endless efforts, we are proud to see JCorp’s position now. It has not only expanded its services locally but also internationally.

“JCorp has given the public a great health service through its Wakaf An-Nur clinics at affordable prices, apart from other events such as the much-anticipated annual international kite festival held every year,” he said in his address at JCorp’s 50th anniversary celebration here.

Sultan Ibrahim said he had the power to appoint the CEO, board members and other officials under the Johor Corporation Enactment 4, 1968.

“However, it does not mean that I am interfering with the administration and my presence is to ensure check and balance,” he said.

Sultan Ibrahim said while the Johor Mentri Besar was appointed as the chairman of JCorp, the appointment of the CEO should be free from any political power.

“This is to ensure the CEO does not blindly follow orders from the chairman,” he said.

Sultan Ibrahim said some of the Federal goverment-linked companies had appointed their CEOs from political backers, adding that they ended up neglecting their duties.

He urged JCorp to conduct a thorough feasibility study on a business it wants to venture into to identify risks and long-term effects.

This, he said was to prevent the state-owned company from getting involved in a business that “we know nothing about or a venture that is not well suited for the country’s environment”.

He said it should focus on the purpose behind its setting up, which was to help the state economy and Bangsa Johor.

The ruler also hoped that JCorp would assist the state government in providing affordable homes under its Rumah Impian Bangsa Johor housing scheme.

“This scheme should be extended to other districts in the state to allow eligible first-time buyers the opportunity to own homes,” he said.

At the event, Sultan Ibrahim also launched JCorp’s new logo.

Also present were Permaisuri Johor Raja Zarith Sofiah Almarhum Sultan Idris Shah, Tunku Panglima Johor Tunku Abdul Rahman Sultan Ibrahim and Tunku Putera Johor Tunku Abu Bakar Sultan Ibrahim.
